News

In the coming months, we'll be using this page to keep you informed of new products and services - and also of projects, large and small, in which we've taken particular satisfaction.
In the case studies section below, we highlight a number of projects in which our data logging specialisation proved especially valuable.
We also feature a handful of actual work reports to demonstrate the quality of our data documentation and analysis, together with the level of detail we bring to each installation, service visit or repair.

FRIDGETEK & F-GAS LEGISLATION. (MAR '08)

FRIDGETEK & F-GAS LEGISLATION. (MAR '08)

With the introduction of the new ‘F-GAS Legislation’ to our industry, Fridgetek have the experience and skills to apply the new legislation to any site and plant applications. As well as general plant maintenance including the now mandatory Refrigerant Leak Testing and documentation a site or site agent must adhere to, Fridgetek offer a Certified Fixed Refrigerant Detection Alarm System. Dependant on refrigerant quantity a system holds, Fridgetek build a range of bespoke Refrigerant Detection Panels from 2 to 16 Leak Detector Sensors, Remote Alarming and Local Evacuation Relaying. As depicted above find a recent project Fridgetek completed for Adviance Facilities.

McQUAY CENTIFUGAL REBUILD (FEB '08)

McQUAY CENTIFUGAL REBUILD (FEB '08)

Drawing on Fridgetek’s vast knowledge of all types of large central chilled water plant, we have just completed a Centrifugal rebuild on a McQuay PEH79 Chiller. Oil loss due to Main Bearing & Seal Damage was successfully repaired, using Manufacture Certified Parts. During the project several refrigeration leaks, Control Pipe-work enhancements and identification of Condenser Water Hydraulic faults lead to a successful conclusion to a very interesting contract.

AXA INSURANCE BACK A SURE BET. (NOV '07)

AXA INSURANCE BACK A SURE BET. (NOV '07)

AXA Insurance in the high rolling Banking Belt of the City of London called upon the Specialist Skills of Fridgetek to help with an IT Plant Critical Chilled Water Air-conditioning system that burst the Evaporator Heat Exchanger.

The refrigeration system had filled totally with water seizing the compressor initially leaving the whole system on the verge of ‘Beyond Economical Repair.’

Our instructions were clear, the system had to be up and running again within a two week program. We stripped out the whole refrigeration system leaving only the original condenser heat exchangers. With the use of our bespoke Ice Trap we continuously evacuated the condensers to remove free water whilst remedial repairs were taking place.

All pipe work, line components, evaporator, compressor, lagging and an over sized drier can were installed, with additional access points, isolators and oil drain points to facilitate easy oil and drier changes. The system was pressure tested and re-evacuated over 5 days using the Bespoke Ice Trap Built by Fridgetek with Nitrogen Blankets being introduced daily.

A final Vacuum Rise Test was successfully carried out and the system charged with Oil and Refrigerant. Several Safety Controls were recalibrated and a full testing procedure completed. During this time 3 Oil and Drier Changes were carried out leaving a dry, acid free refrigeration system.

The system was handed back to the site agent who over looked all stages of works including the scrutinising of all Risk and Method Statements.

BAT ENERGY EFFICIENCY DRIVE (JUL '07)

BAT ENERGY EFFICIENCY DRIVE (JUL '07)

Fridgetek have recently completed an efficiency upgrade to 2 York Chillers located at British American Tobacco in London. By retrofitting a Danfoss Electronic Expansion Valve, Danfoss Superheat Controller and Danfoss Inverter to the Condenser Fan Motors, BAT were able to realise average running cost savings over the year of around 25%. Go to our 'Case Studies' section to view the results.

Whilst the above Energy Efficiency Retrofit was taking place we added further reliability aspects to the machines by retrofitting Liquid Refrigerant Priority Feed Oil Cooling to Suction Galleries and all the associated Controls and Software that was required.

We also upgraded the existing York Sequence Commander with ‘In House’ Bespoke software and added Fail Safe features to the Sequencer for Power and Communication Failures on this Proccess Critical Plant.

FORTISE CAN BANK ON US. (DEC '06)

FORTISE CAN BANK ON US. (DEC '06)

Fridgetek has recently completed a ‘TURN KEY’ project for Comfort Cooling Chillers at FORTIS BANK located in London. The old YORK YCWA Chillers had reached the end of their useful life and Fridgetek were asked to offer a COMPLETE SOLUTION. Considerations for future proofing capacity requirements, Compressor redundancy in fault modes, high energy efficiency, stringent noise specifications and the selection of a Chiller Manufacturer with a proven track record were weighted in our proposal document. Two Carrier Global Screw Chillers were selected delivering over 1.2 MW of Cooling Duty.

The project Design (CDM), CAD Drawings, Structural Engineering, All Labour, Commissioning and years Maintenance Contract were offered by Fridgetek, allowing our customer to get on with what they do best, leaving us to do what we do best.

Our Health & Safety Policy, Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessments and both Internal and External Auditing of the above ‘TURN KEY’ Project were completed unblemished, proving a successful medium sized project for FRIDGETEK.

COOL AS ICE AT THE DTI. (SEPT '06)

COOL AS ICE AT THE DTI. (SEPT '06)

The original installation of an Ice bank servicing THE DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY in London by utilising 2 Off York Codepak Screw Chillers being controlled by a Satchwell Control System, failed to build ice due to poor control by continuously cycling the chillers. Utilising a York IDC Controller and 2 off York Chiller Link Micro Gateways loaded with bespoke software ADAPTED BY FRIDGETEK INHOUSE LABOUR, has provided a cost effective way of sequencing, load matching chillers and building an Ice Bank the most economical way during Electricity Low Peak rates.

DAIKIN VRV KEEPS HOLMES COOL. (MAR '06)

DAIKIN VRV KEEPS HOLMES COOL. (MAR '06)

Fridgetek recently completed a Daikin VRV Installation at a Holmes Place Gym in the Barbican Centre, London. The areas served in the main fitness complex included the indoor running areas, various workout zones and observation areas. The whole project design, installation and commissioning was completed ALL IN-HOUSE and with-in budget.

COME FLY WITH US. (JAN '06)

COME FLY WITH US. (JAN '06)

FRIDGETEK has just completed an exclusive contract with BRITISH AIRWAYS. A York Chiller had burst its evaporator and filled both refrigeration circuits full of water. It proved cost effective to source a NEW evaporator, it being less than half the cost of a York Original Replacement and even still cheaper than re-tubing. As part of the works several Control and Oil Cooling Enhancements were completed to BUILD IN added reliability.

After pressure testing a rigorous dry out procedure was carried out utilising our BESPOKE ICE TRAP during evacuation. Several Kilograms of water were removed from both systems using this method. The Chiller was re-commissioned and handed back to the customer. All works were overseen by the customers own Consultant Engineer and carried out to the fullest Health and Safety raceme.

REPLACEMENT SOLID STATE STARTER. (APR '05)

REPLACEMENT SOLID STATE STARTER. (APR '05)

The prohibitive cost of replacing a failed York Solid Start Starter Panel was overcome by supplying, installing and commissioning an ‘OFF THE SHELF’ Soft Starter in a bespoke control panel adjacent the York Screw Chiller. FridgeTek’s intermit knowledge of the YORK CODEPAK CONTOL CENTER allowed ease of integration of the new starter panel.

PARLIMENT HOUSE CONTRACT. (NOV '04)
